Competitive Courses Programme
Competitive Courses Programme
At Cobham 6th we challenge our students to aim high and provide the support and inspiration they need to reach their full potential. Our Competitive Courses Programme supports top performing students to apply to the most competitive courses such as Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Medicine and academic courses at top Russell Group universities including Oxford and Cambridge.
Opportunities to do this include lectures, workshops, research groups, wider reading, competitions, practical tasks and enrichment opportunities. This wider knowledge and understanding will help you to stand out from the crowd when making applications to elite destinations.

Debating competitions (e.g. Great Debate and Oxford Schools Debating Competition)
ECA time devoted to super-curricular activities, discussing and debating big questions from all academic areas to improve confidence and public speaking skills
‘Super-curricular’ means activities that take your academic learning further, rather than ‘Extra-curricular’ which is separate from your school subjects. Many of the links you will find here take you to short online talks, podcasts, lectures, etc..
An hour of your time could open up depths of new understanding and give you a crucial edge in your academic learning, your applications and at interviews. The top universities are far more interested in your super-curricular learning than your extra-curricular activities.
Being able to demonstrate that you have an intellectual curiosity that goes beyond the content taught in class is the key to distinguishing yourself and becoming an attractive and successful applicant.
