Junior Department Sport
In the junior department we have a specialist sports coordinator who is supported by other skilled professionals, including coaches from Chelsea Football Club Foundation, to deliver a full programme of age-appropriate sports. Pupils participate in a range of sports as part of the curriculum, such as:
gymnastics
football
tag rugby
netball
hockey
athletics
swimming
Lower school pupils are able to benefit from the facilities at the Queen Elizabeth Recreation Ground for field sports or receive lessons on the Old Police Station hard court area of the playground. Upper juniors use the high quality sports spaces available at the main school site, which include sports hall, dance/fitness studio and international standard artifical grass pitch. Swimming lessons are provided with qualified instructors at Reed's School pool from Year 3 upwards (pictured above).
We have a full programme of sports clubs running either before or after the school day, including athletics, cricket, football, cross country and netball. Pupils are also coached to represent CFS in sports teams, competing in fixtures against other local schools from both the private and state sectors, with some considerable success. Our teams have also competed at county level.
Each term in the junior department there is a whole school cross country event, with every child participating. We also hold an annual Sports Day where pupils compete in Houses to win the Governors Shield.
Senior Department Sport
Our Director of Sport coordinates a full programme of disciplines at senior level, working with a wider team of experienced staff and specialists from organisations, such as Chelsea Football Club Foundation and Cobham Rugby Club. Together they deliver a high quality curriculum offer using our facilities which include: International Standard AGP (4G Pitch, pictured above), brand new state-of-art sports hall, studios, netball courts and tennis courts. Some of the sports in the curriculum include :
football
lacrosse
cross country
athletics
netball
hockey
basketball
rugby
Students are able to select PE as an option at GCSE and A Level.
As in the junior department, the fixture programme at senior level, is an important part of our offer and we regularly compete and achieve success in tournaments against local private and state schools. The senior department also has its own annual sports day where the school House teams compete in a wide range of athletic disciplines, including shot put, javelin and track events.
Our extra-curricular programme which runs as part of our extended day, offers further opportunities to participate in various other sports and fitness sessions, with table tennis, street dance, gladiator fitness and kickboxing running alongside more traditional team games. We also deliver a very popular Sports Leaders course to give students the chance to develop skills in planning activities for themselves and learning how to be a successful coach. Some of the activities are run by external companies and are chargeable.
