Reception

 
Reception provides a warm, nurturing and stimulating start to school life, with a strong emphasis on helping every pupil feel happy, secure and ready to learn. Pupils develop the foundations of early reading, writing and mathematics through a rich balance of adult-led teaching, purposeful play and child-initiated learning. Our dedicated Reception outdoor area is a particular strength, offering a wealth of opportunities for exploration, creativity, physical development and learning across the curriculum. Music, movement and creative activities also support confidence, communication and self-expression. Staff carefully observe and assess progress throughout the year, including through the statutory Reception Baseline Assessment, to ensure learning is well matched to individual needs. Enrichment includes visits to Cobham Library and regular walks in the local area, helping pupils develop curiosity and an understanding of the world around them.
